I don't remember the details, but it was a 3 way race that went blue for the first time in like 100 years. Is the incumbent Dem running for re-election and have primaries taken place? Is there a chance for a repeat of the same screwball outcome?

Thanks as always for your insight.
Honestly, I have not paid much attention to the race in NY-23. Owens will be the incumbent Democrat who beat Doug Hoffman, who was on the Conservative Party ticket, and Dede Scozzafava (the squishy Republican). This time around the Republican nominee is Matt Doheny and I don’t know much about him. He actually beat Doug Hoffman in the Republican primary; however, Hoffman also is the Conservative Party nominee and has indicated he will continue to campaign. So the short answer to your question is: Yes. NY-23 is setting up to be a three way race, yet again.

Sounds similar to Delaware, with a couple of twists.

Thanks for the update....how could I have forgotten NY23?

This should help O’Donnell a bit. As they say, when you have friends like this…..behold Sen. Harry Reid making with the creepy:

"I'm going to be very honest with you — Chris Coons, everybody knows him in the Democratic caucus. He's my pet. He's my favorite candidate," Reid said.

"Let me tell you about him: A graduate of Yale Divinity School. Yale Law School. A two-time national debate champion. He represents two-thirds of the state now, in an elected capacity. I don't know if you've ever seen him or heard him speak, but he is a dynamic speaker. I don't mean loud or long; he's a communicator. So that's how I feel about Delaware. I've always thought Chris Coons is going to win. I told him that and I tried to get him to run. I'm glad he's running. I just think the world of him. He's my pet."
Reid: Coons, 'my pet,' will win

O'Donnell In 2007: Scientists Have Created Mice With Human Brains!

Talking Points Memo said this about Christine O'Donnell

We previously noted that O'Donnell had attacked her primary opponent, Congressman Mike Castle, based on his support for stem-cell research. But it turns out that her interest in the subject goes back much further. As Little Green Footballs has spotted, O'Donnell appeared in 2007 on The O'Reilly Factor, to speak out against such research in response to the cloning of some monkeys. Then came her warning on human-mouse hybrids.

"They are -- they are doing that here in the United States. American scientific companies are cross-breeding humans and animals and coming up with mice with fully functioning human brains. So they're already into this experiment."

She will never say as much utter BS as the Senator she will be replacing: Joe Biden.

The man is a pathological liar, from lying about his own wife's death to his education to plagiarizing speeches, the man is in a league of his own.

According to that beacon of wisdom in the darkness, Chris Matthews at MSNBC, women are the ones resposible for O'Donnell's win in Delaware. It goes like this: Large numbers of women are still so disappointed over Hillary Clinton's loss in the Presidential primary that they are simply voting for women at every opportunity.

Tingles is increasingly showing himself to be delusional. Seriously, that is just a bizarre theory. But he will be pleased to know, that I am planning to watch MSNBC in November – just to watch the meltdown. That is if the network actually covers the election results; I have a feeling they might just show a re-run of Cops.

In any event, someone should advise Matthews that these scorned women are putting their money where their vote is – O’Donnell has raised a staggering amount of cash the past few days.

"I dabbled into witchcraft. I never joined a coven,"

"One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar, and I didn't know it. I mean, there's little blood there and stuff like that," she said. "We went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar."

O'Donnell makes light of witchcraft comment

Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell is making light of comments she made more than a decade ago when she was in high school about having dabbled in witchcraft.

"How many of you didn't hang out with questionable folks in high school?" she asked fellow Republicans at a GOP picnic in southern Delaware on Sunday.

"There's been no witchcraft since. If there was, Karl Rove would be a supporter now," O'Donnell jokingly assured the crowd.
                        Heh…not a bad reply.

Is she hinting that Rove is a warlock?

I don’t get the joke, SB. If someone could explain it to me – that would be great. But making light of the “issue” and couching it in terms of youthful indiscretion is the right way to deal with the statement. My gut tells me there is more where this came from…but it is what it is.

Personally, I have come to believe the Karl Rove fall out is a bit strange. Not strange that O’Donnell fans are livid with Rove, but that Rove seemed to pick the absolute worst moment to tear apart a new GOP nominee. For the most part, once she won the primary there is really no advantage, for anyone right of center, repeating their gripes. She is what she is and I don’t think anyone can seriously argue that DE Republican’s went into the voting booth oblivious to her past problems. They knew and disregarded them or at least deemed them less important then other factors, i.e. Castle’s too-frequent embrace of the other party’s legislative agenda and the de facto approval for the “status quo” he represented. We see this reflected in comments in this thread. In this case, specifically in this race in DE, that is not the call I would have made; but it is also not my call to make.

I am all for citizen legislators; sometimes you will find a diamond in the ruff. But a piece of advice – we should all be wary when we are urged to support a candidate because of what that candidate believes, or more accurately professes to believe, instead of what the candidate has actually done – sound familiar?. With all the widespread disillusionment with the hopey-changey guy who was going to heal the sick and stop the oceans from rising, voters should put more stock into accomplishments than promises. Anyone can tell you what you want to hear.

And O’Donnell’s resume appears pretty thin. Regardless, if I were eligible to vote in DE I would vote for her over Coons everyday of the week and twice on Sunday – based on his record.

I think if you are registered by an SEIU or ACORN operative, you get to vote THREE times on Sunday.

I guess I don't get her humor (or if it was humor at all). I can only assume she is implying that Rove is involved in witchcraft.

Bottomline is character matters and although the Tea Party has produced some very good candidates, but they have also failed on some. At this point based on what I know of her, I wouldn't vote for her.
